Saddle Lake, Alberta: November 9, 1989 At a community meeting in Saddle Lake, Alberta, held earlier this afternoon, the Saddle Lake First Nation became a signatory to the Treaty Alliance of North American Aboriginal Nations. Chief Carl Quinn signed on behalf of Saddle Lake. Chief Bernard Ominayak signed on behalf of Lubicon Lake. The Saddle Lake First Nation becomes the 19th Indian Nation to sign the Defence Treaty. There are now 4 Nations from Ontario, 2 Nations from New Brunswick, 1 Nation from Manitoba, 1 Nation from Labrador, 3 Nations from Quebec, 1 Nation from Saskatchewan, and 7 Nations from Alberta represented by the Defence Treaty. The total population represented by those signing the Treaty is in excess of 50,000.
