MEDIA NOTICE Sunday, November 19, 1989 There will be a meeting of the Treaty Alliance of North American Aboriginal Nations on November 21, 1989, in Goose Bay, Labrador. Chiefs will be arriving in Goose Bay on Monday, November 20th, at the Goose Bay Airport at 1:30 P.M. Attending will be Chief Bernard Ominayak, Lubicon Lake, Alberta; Chief Roger Jones, Ojibways of Shawanaga, Ontario; Chief Daniel Ashini, Sheshatshiu Innu, Labrador; Vice Chairman George Wapachee, Grand Council of the Crees, Quebec; Denny Auger, Bigstone Indian Nation, Alberta; 2 Councillors, Samson Indian Nation, Alberta; Chief Roy Whitney and Councillor Alan Crowchild, Sarcee Indian Nation, Alberta; Chief Harvey Scanie, Cold Lake First Nations, Alberta; Chief Al Lameman, Beaver Lake First Nation, Alberta; Chief Ernest Sundown, Joseph Bighead First Nation, Saskatchewan; Alex Christmas, Assembly of First Nations & Union of Nova Scotia Indians; lawyer James O'Reilly from Montreal. Others who may be attending are representatives from Pabineau Indian First Nation, New Brunswick; Mississauga First Nation, Ontario; Grand Rapids Indian Nation, Manitoba; Nishnawbe-Aski Nation, Ontario. This will be the first organizational/strategy meeting for the Native Defence Treaty Alliance since its first signing in July of 1989. There are currently 19 Treaty Signatories: 7 from Alberta, 1 from Saskatchewan, 1 from Manitoba, 4 from Ontario, 2 from New Brunswick, 1 from Labrador, and 3 from Quebec. Total population represented by Treaty Signatories is in excess of 50,000.
